What is the difference between an extended and a polygamous family

An extended family is one which consists of parents, children, grand children and sometimes the sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews of the parents. Sometimes extended families live near each other, but most often modern extended families live some distance apart and come together only during formal reunions, special holidays gatherings, and for marriages and funerals.A polygamous family is one in which one person has more than one spouse at the same time. The two best known forms are polygyny (one man having more than one wife), or as polyandry (one woman having more than one husband). A polygamous family is one in which the spouses and their children live together and operate as a large family unit.A polygamous family may be considered to be one particular type of extended family.
