Why do people wear white on wedding days

In Western popular culture, white is considered equivalent with purity. In history though, white wedding gowns did not become popular until the mid-1800’s when Queen Victoria wore a white wedding gown when she married Albert of Saxe-Coburg. Many women chose to honor the queen by following her example. Since then, white has become the traditional color for wedding gowns.
